WHAT ARE EVERYDAY ACHES & PAINS?
Everyone suffers some form of aches and pain from time to time. Muscle pain and aches involving our neck, back and limbs are common, but these may be a warning sign of more serious underlying medical conditions. Knowing our body pain threshold is important. When persistent and unusual aches and pain occur, medical attention should be sought.
CAUSES OF COMMON ACHES & PAINS
Common aches and pain can be caused by unaccustomed use, over-use or over-stretching of muscles and other soft tissues. If severe muscle pain is accompanied by swelling and limited joints movement, it may mean muscles, tendons,ligaments or joint injuries have occurred.Illnesses and other medical conditions can also cause aches and pains. If the common aches and pain resulting from muscle and soft tissue strains are treated early and appropriately, they may quickly subside and recovery can be faster. PAIN IS CLASSIFIED AS
This is generally defined as pain lasting < 6 WEEKS.
Such pain is common, and usually immediately following injury, infection or surgery, and is generally short in duration. Common examples include sprained ankle and sore muscles after unaccustomed or intense exercises.
This is generally defined as pain lasting 6 WEEKS to – 3 MONTHS. These pain may be progressing to chronic pain. The transition may be preventable with Active intervention and treatment.
This is generally defined as pain lasting > 3 MONTHS. Constant daily pain lasting for a period of three months or more, are also sometimes called ‘ongoing’ or ‘persistent’ pain. Such pain may require medical expert management and active intervention.
